Designed for intimate gatherings in open-plan spaces
foco
complementing and softening the environment
creating spaces where conversation and tranquility can arise naturally
FOCO is a minimalist light fixture with a cubic volume contained within a structure that at first glance appears heavy, but thanks to its maple wood material, it possesses a sense of lightness, where the proportions reinforce a feeling of stability. Featuring a total width of 154mm, with a 115mm cubic center, creating a perimeter frame that emphasizes the object’s presence when at rest, and reaching a total height of 150mm to consolidate a compact and balanced geometry designed for placement on side tables. The spotlight element is integrated into the center of FOCO: an adjustable, half-chromed spotlight that highlights its chrome finish, acting as a focal point, while the base supports the cubic form without visually competing as the main volume. Overall, the dimensions seek a proportional relationship to create a contained and precise object that inhabits a space without being imposing.
the piece
FOCO is a light fixture that embodies the duality between presence and absence: when off, it manifests as a silent tabletop object, anchoring itself to the space like a physical pause within its surroundings. When lit, however, it dissolves, giving way to a warm light that seeks to create atmosphere and a sense of intimacy. Designed for intimate gatherings in open-plan spaces, it complements and softens the environment, creating spaces where conversation and tranquility can arise naturally.
process
Inspired by the idea of a minimalist monospace, where everything coexists and is exposed, this project seeks to illuminate conversations and refine them into an intimate moment between two people or a group, acting as a focal point that, when necessary, defines and focuses without closing off or imposing on the conversation. FOCO aims to shorten the distance in conversation, dissolve tensions, and share the same space as the conversation, striving to bring people closer together. The value of FOCO is materialized in a space full of objects that demand attention by doing the opposite: when it is not necessary, FOCO is perceived as a table object and at the right moment, FOCO in an almost imperceptible way accommodates the conditions to share and bring moments closer through light.
