A cosmic point of encounter and dialogue

polarys

Polarys is not just a light.
A centerpiece that attracts and connects.

A chromatic sphere levitates at the piece’s heart like a newly ignited star, radiating an invisible force that draws everything inward. More than just a visual focus, it attracts bodies, conversations, and silence alike. Much like the sun sustains its system, this sphere becomes the table’s symbolic nucleus—a point of origin, meeting, and intimacy.

Polarys is designed to be felt rather than just seen, acting as a silent magnet that awakens a mystical desire to draw near. It invites a deeper understanding of the shared moment, the self, and the cosmos. This luminary inhabits tables in bars and restaurants as a centerpiece, inspired by gravity, celestial bodies, and their constant, harmonious interaction.

The floating light ring serves as a metaphor for the subtle bonds connecting people around a table. While solid volumes create a sense of tension and stability, the suspended element evokes dialogue and closeness. At the center of Polarys, the entire universe feels contained within a single levitating sphere, pulling us toward the essence of the encounter.

the piece

Table lamp measuring 12 cm in diameter by 30 cm in height, composed of two newspaperwood cylinder halves separated by a diagonal cut. Both pieces are connected by a metallic-finished resin ring that emits warm light from within. At its center, a chromatic sphere levitates via magnets, defying gravity and inviting contemplation like a celestial body in perfect balance.

process

The manufacturing process began by scaling the lamp 1:1 and creating custom NewspaperWood from recycled paper. These pieces are turned to house the hidden levitation device, with lateral holes drilled for the ring supports. The ring and sphere are 3D modeled in Rhino 8, printed in resin, and finished in metallic chrome.

The levitation device is installed in the lower cylinder while the magnet is placed inside the sphere; a backup plan uses acrylic or wire if needed. Finally, a warm LED strip is threaded through the ring, with its power cable exiting via a drilled base hole to ensure seamless functionality.
